U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Marathon Preparations Underway in Orlando

In preparation for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Marathon in downtown Orlando, city officials and event organizers are working diligently to ensure a smooth and successful event. Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, along with Greater Orlando Sports Commission President & CEO Jason Siegel and Track Shack Co-Owner Jon Hughes, will be leading the efforts to prepare the city for this prestigious event.

On Thursday, February 1, 2024, Mayor Dyer, Siegel, and Hughes will be working alongside city employees and event organizers to install barricades and close roads along the marathon route. This is to accommodate the more than 360 runners who will be competing for a spot on Team USA for the Paris 2024 Olympic games. The work-along will take place on Central Boulevard near Rosalind Avenue at 11:00 am EST.

Speaking about the preparations leading up to the event, Mayor Dyer highlighted the importance of hosting such a significant sporting event in Orlando. He stated, "We are thrilled to be hosting the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Marathon in our city. This is a tremendous opportunity to showcase Orlando's capabilities as a premier sporting destination."

Echoing Mayor Dyer's sentiments, Jason Siegel, President & CEO of the Greater Orlando Sports Commission, emphasized the impact of hosting the event on the local economy and tourism. He commented, "The U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Marathon will bring national attention to Orlando and provide a boost to our economy. We are excited to welcome athletes and spectators from all over the country to experience the vibrant energy of our city."

Jon Hughes, Co-Owner of Track Shack, expressed his enthusiasm for the event and the hard work put into its organization. He said, "As a local business deeply involved in the running community, we are honored to be a part of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Marathon preparations. It's wonderful to see the collaboration between city officials, event organizers, and the running community to make this event a success."

Following the work-along, Mayor Dyer, Siegel, and Hughes will be available for interviews with the media to discuss the preparations leading up to the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Marathon.

Media parking for the event will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. On-street parking meters along the west side of Rosalind Avenue, just north of Central Boulevard, will be bagged to accommodate media vehicles.
