Apopka Health and Rehabilitation Center was the third largest nursing home in Orange County during the first quarter of 2026, sharing the position with Rehabilitation Center of Winter Park, Aviata at Colonial Lakes, and Lotus Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The facility offered 180 beds, which is 53 more than the Orange County average during the same period. On average, 161.5 residents were served there in that quarter.

The CMS assigned Apopka Health and Rehabilitation Center an overall rating of 3 out of 5. This trails the state’s average of 3.3 for nursing homes across Florida.

Orlando Health and Rehabilitation Center topped the list as the largest in Orange County, providing 391 available beds, followed by Health Central Park with 218 beds.

No fines or penalties were listed for Apopka Health and Rehabilitation Center throughout the quarter.

Orange County, Florida, had a total of 11 non-profit nursing homes.

U.S. Census Bureau data reveals the population of Americans age 65 and older continues rising, while numbers for the population under 18 have dropped. From 2020 to 2024, the 65-and-older group grew by 13%, compared to a 1.7% decrease for those under age 18. The country’s older adult population has climbed sharply over the past century, from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million as of 2024.

Research from 2021 estimates that about half of older adults—approximately 28 million people—will require long-term services and support, with more than a third expected to need nursing home care at some point.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an organization focused on insurance education. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
