FOIA Request to Valencia College Regarding Chinese National Students on June 4, 2025.

As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability in governmental affairs, we at the Orlando Standard have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Valencia College. Our request seeks detailed information about the college’s current Chinese National students and their affiliations within the institution.

The request specifically asks for documents or lists showing all current students who are Chinese Nationals, including their departments of study. If privacy concerns prevent sharing specific names, we have requested aggregated data indicating the total number of such students broken down by department.

Additionally, we seek information on scholarships awarded to these students. This includes details on each scholarship’s amount and source. We are particularly interested in any scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.

Furthermore, our inquiry extends to Valencia College’s policies and procedures for monitoring students—especially Chinese Nationals—to safeguard the university’s intellectual property and other confidential information.

This request is made on behalf of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to investigating state and federal governmental agencies. As members of the media, we believe access to public records is crucial for holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public. Consequently, we have requested a fee waiver based on our role in disseminating information.
