Orlando city officials have announced the completion of Phase I of the Grand National Drive capacity improvements. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 11:15 a.m., hosted by Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and District 6 City Commissioner Bakari F. Burns. The event will take place at the intersection of Grand National Drive and Fun Spot Way.
The project is a significant milestone in the city’s effort to revitalize the North International Drive corridor. It aims to enhance mobility, pedestrian safety, and infrastructure in one of Orlando’s busiest districts. Enhancements include multi-use sidewalks from Oak Ridge Road to Vanguard Street, redesigned streetscapes, upgraded landscaping, improved drainage infrastructure, and traffic flow enhancements.
These improvements are aligned with Orlando’s Vision Zero initiative to eliminate traffic-related fatalities and injuries. They also offer an alternative route to relieve congestion on Kirkman Road due to the I-4 Ultimate project.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy by the City of Orlando to support economic growth and create a more connected International Drive district.
Reserved parking for media attending the ceremony will be available at 6616 Grand National Drive.
