Lotus Nursing and Rehabilitation Center ranked among the three largest nursing homes in Orange County during the first quarter of 2026, tying with Apopka Health and Rehabilitation Center, Rehabilitation Center of Winter Park, and Aviata at Colonial Lakes for third place, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows.

The facility reported having 180 available beds in the period, which was 53 more than the average number for all Orange County homes in the first quarter of 2026. The center had an average daily census of 159.7 residents during this time.

Lotus Nursing and Rehabilitation Center received an overall rating of 2 out of 5 from CMS, below the Florida average overall nursing home rating of 3.3.

Orlando Health and Rehabilitation Center operated as the largest nursing home in Orange County during the first quarter with 391 beds, followed by Health Central Park with 218 beds.

Lotus Nursing and Rehabilitation Center had been cited with one fine and one penalty, totaling $3,282 as of the first quarter of 2026.

Throughout Orange County, 24 for-profit nursing homes operated during that period.

As the U.S. Census Bureau reports, the population of older adults in the nation continues to increase, while younger population groups see decline. From 2020 to 2024, Americans age 65 and older grew by 13%, while the population under age 18 dropped by 1.7%. Since 1920, growth in the older adult segment has been substantial, reaching over 61 million people by 2024, compared to 4.9 million in 1920.

A 2021 study found about half of adults 65 and older—estimated at nearly 28 million people—are expected to require long-term services or support. The research also projects more than a third may need to move into nursing home care in the future.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
