The No. 18 University of Central Florida women’s tennis team defeated the Cincinnati Bearcats on April 10, earning their fifth sweep of the season at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center.
The win brings UCF closer to securing a second consecutive regular-season title in the Big 12 Conference, with only one match remaining in their schedule. The Knights improved their record to 17-3 overall and 10-2 in conference play, while Cincinnati fell to 8-13 and 1-11.
Jantje Tilbuerger and Marina Gatell opened doubles play for UCF by losing just one point against Sakurako Watanabe and Rozalia Gruszczynska. Olivia Bergler and Lauren Seye then clinched the doubles point with a victory on court two. In singles action, Jade Psonka made her debut on court four with a commanding double-bagel win (6-0, 6-0), followed by freshman Gatell’s straight-set victory (6-2, 6-0) on court three. Bergler secured the overall win for UCF by defeating Gruszczynska on court two.
Gatell now holds an individual record of 11-2 on court three this season, having clinched five matches for her team. Psonka has also contributed significantly across various courts with a combined record of 12-2 across courts four, five, and six.
Looking ahead, head coach Bryan Koniecko and his squad are vying for another program milestone as they compete with No. 11 Arizona State for sole possession of the regular-season championship title. Both teams are tied at the top of conference standings with identical records heading into their final matches.
UCF will face West Virginia next on Sunday morning at home; a victory would guarantee them at least a share of the Big 12 title.
