The Orlando City Council has announced several upcoming events and infrastructure projects following its August 11, 2025 meeting.

Residents are invited to attend the 2025 State of the City Address at Plaza Live on Tuesday, August 19. The event is part of ongoing celebrations marking Orlando’s 150th anniversary. Officials said the address will reflect on the city’s progress and reaffirm community goals.

City leaders also acknowledged last week’s celebration of Orlando’s sesquicentennial. Commissioners joined local groups in organizing service events across various districts. “We were able to visit each event, and it was great to see so many residents – and quite a few city employees – showcasing our city’s kindness and compassion on this special day. It was hot at the outdoor events, but everyone shared their pride in Orlando and helped strengthen our city,” officials stated.

A significant infrastructure project was discussed during the council meeting. Plans are moving forward for upgrades to Lift Station 2, which services northwest Orlando and downtown areas. The initiative will replace a pipe that has been in use for seventy years and is nearing the end of its operational life.

“Projects like this one are key to building a better Orlando, by improving our city’s infrastructure and long-term resilience,” officials said. They emphasized that such investments are especially important during hurricane season as they help prevent failures or disruptions during severe weather, ensuring reliability for residents.
