The City of Orlando has announced a public hearing for the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (AHAC) as required by Florida Statute 420.9076. The committee is responsible for preparing a Housing Incentive Strategies Report, which aims to recommend actions or initiatives that support the preservation of affordable housing units in Orlando and address regulatory barriers that may increase development costs.
The report’s recommendations could include changes to existing policies, procedures, ordinances, regulations, or plan provisions. It may also propose new exceptions and incentives for affordable housing development or suggest amendments to the local government comprehensive plan and related regulations.
According to the city, “The recommendations outlined in the report may include: the modification or repeal of existing policies, procedures, ordinances, regulations, or plan provisions; the creation of exceptions and incentives available for affordable housing development; or the adoption of new policies, procedures, statutes, ordinances, or plan provisions, including recommendations to amend the local government comprehensive plan and corresponding regulations, ordinances, and other policies.”
The AHAC will review and discuss its final recommendations at a public hearing scheduled for Thursday, November 20, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. The meeting will take place at Orlando City Hall in the City Council Chambers located at 400 South Orange Avenue.
City staff are expected to request approval of these recommendations from members of the Orlando City Council during their meeting on Monday, December 8, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.
Interested parties are encouraged to attend both meetings. The committee’s recommendations can be reviewed online through a provided PDF document or by contacting Kassi Bernard, Housing and Community Development Program Manager. Special accommodations can be arranged by calling 407.246.2395.
