The City of Orlando’s Historic Preservation Board has announced the theme for its 2026 calendar and accompanying photography competition. This year, photographers are invited to capture images of the “Painted Ladies” found in Orlando’s historic neighborhoods. These structures, known for their colorful exteriors painted with three or more colors, are a key focus of this year’s theme.

Since 1991, the Historic Preservation Board Calendar has highlighted Orlando’s historic resources. For the upcoming edition, photographers can submit photos of any structure over 50 years old, generally pre-1970, located within Orlando’s historic neighborhoods. The aim is to showcase the unique styles and charm of these homes.

Orlando boasts many beautifully painted historic houses that rival San Francisco’s iconic Victorian “Painted Ladies.” Thanks to sponsorship from McCoy Federal Credit Union, the calendar will feature color photographs for the first time since 2006.

Photographs can depict individual architectural details or entire structures and must be submitted by July 7, 2025. Selected photographers will receive a $100 honorarium for their contributions to the calendar.

Digital submissions should be emailed to Jennifer.Fritz-Hunter@orlando.gov with relevant contact information and subject site addresses. Printed submissions need to be mailed to the Historic Preservation Office at Orlando City Hall.

For further details on submission guidelines or inquiries about the competition, individuals can visit orlando.gov/calendarcontest or contact Jennifer Fritz-Hunter directly at 407.246.3416.

All submitted photographs become property of the City of Orlando Historic Preservation Board for use in annual competitions and promotions. The board members will select winning photos through blind judging.
