Orlando’s South Street Urban Farm will mark its grand opening with a celebration attended by Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, District 5 City Commissioner Shan Rose, and local community members. This event highlights the transformation of underutilized land into a productive space for fresh produce through local partnerships.
Attendees will participate in planting the first seeds in a Block n’ Lock garden bed. This system, designed locally without mortar, symbolizes community-driven solutions. The garden bed is set to feature a mural celebrating the culture and history of the neighborhood.
The opening of South Street Urban Farm emphasizes Orlando’s dedication to enhancing local food systems, boosting community resilience, and promoting sustainable practices. Part of this initiative includes installing a solar-powered composter funded by a USDA cooperative agreement. This installation aims to provide residents with nutrient-rich soil and foster sustainability.
The event is scheduled for Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 10 a.m., located at South Street Urban Farm on 626 West South Street.
