In the latest City Council meeting held on December 11, 2023, several important topics were discussed and decisions were made that will impact the community. Here are the highlights from the meeting:

Firstly, with the holiday season upon us, the City Council took a moment to extend their warm wishes to the community. They wished a Happy Hanukkah to those celebrating and a joyous holiday season to all Orlando residents. Additionally, the Council announced the return of the highly popular holiday drone show at Lake Eola Park. On Saturday, December 23 at 8 p.m., 500 synchronized drones will take to the sky to create stunning holiday designs. This event is part of the city's efforts to increase amenities in downtown Orlando and support the local economy.

Moving on to the agenda items, one notable topic was the Mayor's Matching Grant Awards. The Council looked to approve funding for 12 projects that aim to enhance the community's quality of life and provide out-of-school enrichment opportunities for the youth. These grants support local schools and non-profits. Representatives from many of these organizations were present at the meeting, showing their support for the grants.

Another important item on the agenda was the Vision Zero Safe Streets Plan. As part of the Safe Streets Project, the Council aimed to approve the consultant who will create a plan to implement safety improvements in six Vision Zero corridors across the city. This plan includes upgrades to sidewalks, the addition of new bike paths, and the installation of more crosswalks. The goal of this initiative is to eliminate traffic-related injuries and make the streets safer for everyone.

The City Council meeting concluded with the announcement of City Hall's contact information and operating hours, reminding residents that they can reach out for any inquiries or concerns they may have.

Overall, the City Council meeting on December 11, 2023 addressed important issues such as holiday festivities, grants to support the community, and safety improvements on city streets.
