The City Council of Orlando held a meeting on April 1, 2024, to discuss various updates and initiatives within the city.

District 5 Councilmember stated, "As a city, our focus is on ensuring the residents of District 5 are appropriately served and represented." The council is working towards holding a special election on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, to temporarily fill the District 5 City Commission seat. To facilitate this special election, several city processes and procedures need approval from the Orlando City Council. A special City Council Meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 8, 2024, to move these forward and allow for candidate qualifying to begin promptly.

During this holiday season, the council extended well wishes to residents observing Easter, Ramadan, and Passover, stating, "We want to wish everyone observing a peaceful and joyous time."

The city is gearing up for the Spring Fiesta in the Park celebration at Lake Eola Park. The event, which is free and family-friendly, showcases the works of numerous artists and crafters, providing an opportunity to enjoy the downtown area and the pleasant weather.

On April 7, the city will celebrate 407 Day, encouraging residents to support local businesses and foster hometown pride. The day serves as an opportunity to celebrate the city and contribute to the growth of the local economy.

Furthermore, the U.S. Forest Service has awarded a one-million-dollar grant to the Families, Parks, and Recreation Department to enhance the city's tree canopy. The grant will cover tree maintenance and pruning in underserved neighborhoods, along with funding a training program in partnership with the Youth Employment Program to cultivate careers in urban forestry.

The City Council's efforts reflect a commitment to serving the community and enhancing the city's environment and economy.
