The City Council convened on September 23, 2024, to discuss various community initiatives and infrastructure projects. Commissioner Jim Gray led the Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance.

The meeting included a preview of the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the renovated Downtown Recreation Center, scheduled for tomorrow with Commissioner Rose. The new facility aims to provide resources and opportunities for young adults, continuing efforts initiated by the Parramore Kidz Zone.

In recognition of World Heart Day, Orlando Firefighters will offer free Hands-Only CPR training at Lake Eola Park’s Amphitheater on Sunday, September 29, starting at 9 a.m.

Key items discussed included water reclamation bonds (B#8) intended to fund upgrades to aging infrastructure. These upgrades will involve replacing lift station equipment, improving treatment processes at two water reclamation facilities, and repairing gravity sewer lines.

The council also addressed several agenda items related to Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) and Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG). Sixteen agreements totaling over $550,000 were approved to support programs offered by non-profit partner agencies. These programs include homebuyer education and counseling, case management services for survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking, outreach services for the homeless population, temporary housing solutions, permanent supportive housing, shelter operations, and financial stability services.

"We are grateful to these partners for helping advance our shared priority that every resident has a safe place to sleep and their basic needs are met," stated an official from the City Council.
