Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer recently presented the annual State of Downtown address, unveiling the new DTO Action Plan. The event, held at the KIA Center, was attended by residents, business owners, and community members in collaboration with the Downtown Orlando Partnership.

The DTO Action Plan, originally known as Project DTO 2.0, aims to make Downtown Orlando an inclusive space for all. "This is a big, ambitious plan that will set the stage for Downtown to own the future," stated Mayor Dyer during his speech.

The plan outlines three major ideas: making downtown easy to navigate, transforming it into an iconic park, and creating a neighborhood for everyone.

To improve mobility, Orlando plans to revamp streets and transit systems. Magnolia Avenue will undergo significant changes to become a social hub with extended sidewalks and improved parking facilities. Similarly, Orange Avenue will be reconstructed for two-way traffic to enhance connectivity and promote outdoor activities.

The city also intends to expand transit options with Ride DTO offering eco-friendly rides within downtown for one dollar.

The second idea focuses on converting downtown into a network of parks. Redevelopment plans include transforming Lake Lucerne's lakefront area into a lively destination with various recreational facilities. Another project called "The Canopy" aims to create leisure spaces beneath I-4 by utilizing underused infrastructure.

Revitalization efforts extend to Church Street which will become more pedestrian-friendly and Art Squared Park featuring amenities like cafes and art galleries is set to open in early 2025.

Lastly, ensuring diversity in housing is key in making downtown accessible for everyone. The Westcourt project includes residential units alongside entertainment venues operated by Live Nation. The Good Salt Restaurant Group is also contributing with several restaurants opening downtown next year.

Additionally, initiatives like the Clean and Safe app allow residents to report maintenance issues easily while programs supporting affordable housing aim at reducing homelessness significantly by 2027.
