In a recent meeting, the Pulse Memorial Advisory Committee collaborated with design assistants to create initial sketches for a permanent memorial at the Pulse site. These designs reflect elements that have received consensus from both the committee and many families of the victims and survivors of the tragedy. The proposed elements include ways to individually recognize each victim, ensure the space is safe and welcoming, provide shade and protection from Florida's weather, incorporate parts of the existing building into the design, and pay tribute to survivors.
The committee is now seeking public input on these initial sketches before their December meeting. Community members can review and provide feedback on these sketches at engage.orlando.gov.
Since its formation in July this year, the committee has held seven sessions where members discussed ideas for the memorial’s mission and purpose. They participated in brainstorming exercises and shared thoughts on honoring the 49 individuals who lost their lives. These discussions have helped shape several potential elements for inclusion in the memorial.
The Pulse Memorial Advisory Committee comprises representatives of victims' families, survivors, and other stakeholders. It was established to guide efforts toward creating a permanent memorial at the Pulse site while encouraging community engagement in both English and Spanish. The goal is to recommend a conceptual design by year's end.
Meeting agendas, minutes, and updates are available at pulseorlando.org/committee.
