The City of Orlando is set to begin the next phase of reopening Orange Avenue in Downtown Orlando on January 17, 2025. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and support a vibrant downtown community.
The new phase will expand current barricade installations along Orange Avenue, which started last November. It will now include center-lane barricades on Central Boulevard and Pine Street. During this phase, roads will remain closed to vehicular traffic.
The initial phases have been guided by priorities such as keeping pedestrians closer to sidewalks and supporting downtown businesses by maintaining access and encouraging patronage. These efforts are complemented by other safety initiatives implemented over the years, including adding more code enforcement officers downtown, increasing funding for Orlando Police officers, expanding the SAFE program and Orlando Connect, enhancing lighting throughout the downtown core, securing private parking lots, adjusting the noise ordinance, and requiring permits for alcohol sales from midnight to 2 a.m. in the Downtown Entertainment District.
"The city is dedicated to ensuring the safety of the community while fostering a vibrant, thriving downtown that serves as a welcoming hub for residents, businesses, and visitors alike."
