Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and the Orlando City Council have announced the start of a year-long celebration to mark the city's 150th anniversary. The event will include the unveiling of a commemorative banner and plans for various activities leading up to Orlando's official birthday on July 31, 2025.

"Join Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, City Commissioners and community partners as they unveil a commemorative banner to kick off a year-long celebration of Orlando’s 150th anniversary," reads an invitation to the event. During this gathering, Mayor Dyer is expected to share "exciting plans for the year ahead."

Orlando began in 1875 as a small frontier settlement with only 40 residents. Today, it has grown into a bustling city with over 300,000 inhabitants across more than 120 neighborhoods. The city is known for its diverse arts, culture, sports, outdoor spaces, food scene, and businesses.

The city aims to celebrate its history while honoring progress and unity. "Orlando is a globally recognized, welcoming city that places unity and compassion at the core of everything it does," states the announcement.

The kickoff event is scheduled for Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at City Commons Plaza located at 400 South Orange Avenue. Media representatives interested in attending are requested to RSVP with Andrea Otero from the City of Orlando Public Information Office.
