Orlando city officials and the Orlando Land Trust are set to commence construction on a Butterfly Sculpture Garden at Lake Eola Park. The groundbreaking ceremony will take place on Thursday, February 6, 2025, with Mayor Buddy Dyer and District 4 City Commissioner Patty Sheehan in attendance.
The garden's development is funded by the Orlando Land Trust through their Grandmother’s Legacy of Love campaign. This initiative aims to enhance the park's aesthetics while maintaining its status as a key recreational area in Orlando.
"The mission of Orlando Land Trust is to preserve, protect and improve green space for a healthier Orlando," stated the organization. This project aligns with Project DTO's objective to increase green spaces in downtown Orlando, offering residents and visitors another venue for leisure activities.
For its initial endeavor, the Orlando Land Trust facilitated the acquisition of land at Lake Eola Park's southwest corner to transform it into public space. The upcoming Butterfly Sculpture Garden represents a continuation of these efforts.
The event will occur at 10:30 a.m., near Sperry Fountain in Lake Eola Park's southeast corner. Attendees include Mayor Buddy Dyer, Commissioner Patty Sheehan, and representatives from the Orlando Land Trust.
