The Pulse Memorial Advisory Committee has made significant progress in their mission to establish a permanent memorial for the victims of the Pulse tragedy. After six months of intense discussions and meetings, the committee has recommended a conceptual design for the memorial. This marks an important step forward since the tragic event nine years ago, which claimed 49 lives.

The committee's efforts have been deeply influenced by the input from victims' families and survivors. Their experiences have played a crucial role in shaping the process. A workshop is scheduled for February 24 to acknowledge the committee's work and discuss further steps in selecting a design and build firm for the memorial.

In other city council matters, there is a proposal on today's agenda to fund a project development and environment study by FDOT. This study aims to extend SunRail services to key locations, including the airport, convention center, hotels, and theme parks. The initiative seeks to alleviate traffic congestion by enhancing transit options across Central Florida.

The study is essential for securing funding from the Federal Transit Administration to make the Sunshine Corridor project viable. The proposed rail service would facilitate easier commutes for residents and visitors alike, providing more frequent service during nights and weekends.

Acknowledgment was given to John Tyler of District Five Secretary at FDOT and his team for their collaboration on this project.
