The University of Central Florida women’s tennis team secured its second straight Big 12 regular-season championship after defeating West Virginia 4-2, according to an April 12 announcement.
This achievement marks the first time in UCF Athletics history that a program has won back-to-back Big 12 conference titles. The Knights have now become only the second team to reach eleven conference victories this season, joining Arizona State.
The match began with UCF winning both doubles matches on courts two and three. Jade Psonka and Donatella Guarnieri earned a decisive win over Lyla Byers and Sosanne Malaak, while Olivia Bergler and Lauren Seye clinched their match shortly after. In singles play, Jantje Tilbuerger delivered a dominant performance with a straight-set victory, followed by Marina Gatell who held off her opponent for another point. Although West Virginia responded with wins on courts four and six, Psonka secured the final point for UCF by winning her singles match in two sets.
Head coach Bryan Koniecko led the team through an undefeated home season and challenging road schedule. The Knights finished the regular season with an overall record of 18-3 and went 11-2 in league play. They were originally picked to finish second in the preseason poll but exceeded expectations throughout the year.
Looking ahead, UCF will participate in the Big 12 Conference Championship Tournament at home beginning April 15. Details regarding seeding, match date, time, and opponent will be announced later.
