Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, along with City Commissioners, State Senator Geraldine Thompson, State Representative Bruce Antone, State Representative Rita Harris, and Orlando Police Chief Eric D. Smith will be participating in the unveiling of a new roadway sign to honor the late Orlando Police Officer Kevin Valencia. The dedication ceremony will also be attended by Officer Valencia's family.

The event, scheduled for Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., will take place at 5401 South Kirkman Road. This location holds special significance as The 2023 Florida Legislature designated a portion of Kirkman Road between Conroy Road and Vineland Road as the "Officer Kevin Valencia Memorial Highway" in recognition of his dedicated service to the community.

Officer Kevin Valencia tragically passed away in 2021 due to critical injuries sustained while on duty in 2018. He was shot while responding to a domestic violence call and fought for his life for over two years following the incident.

Members of the media planning to cover the unveiling ceremony are advised to park in the reserved parking spaces at the Regions Bank parking lot at 5401 South Kirkman Road.

For further information, the Public Information Officer, Ashley Papagni, can be contacted via email at ashley.papagni@orlando.gov or by phone at 407.246.4275.
