The city of Orlando is closely monitoring Hurricane Helene and will activate its Emergency Operations Center to a Level II Partial Activation on Thursday, September 26, at 9 a.m. City departments are taking precautionary measures and advising residents on several fronts.
Solid waste services, including residential and commercial trash, yard waste, and recycling pick-up, are expected to operate normally on Thursday. Residents are encouraged to bag or bundle loose yard waste and avoid placing it on storm drains or roadways. If Thursday is not your scheduled yard waste day, secure the items near your home instead of placing them at the curb.
City facilities and services will have specific closures or limited availability on Thursday. The City of Orlando After School Programs will be open from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. for students already enrolled at any of the four sites.
Stormwater operations continue with city crews monitoring lake levels, inlets, lake outfalls, and drainage well intakes. For flooding issues, residents can visit orlando.gov/flood or call 407-246-2238.
For power outages and downed power lines, OUC customers should call 407-423-9018 or text “OUT” to 69682. Down trees can be reported via the non-emergency line at 407-246-2283. In case of emergencies requiring immediate attention, residents should call 911.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed through the city's social media channels and visit orlando.gov/storm for more information on suggested supplies and preparation tips.
