Today we turned over the command of the Orlando Fire Department to Chief Charlie Salazar. He comes to our community after nearly 29 years with Dallas Fire-Rescue, where he worked his way through the ranks up to Executive Deputy Chief, serving a city with a population of more than 1.3 million residents and helping guide a fire department with 2,000 members.
I'm confident that with his professional background, strong leadership and organizational skills, Chief Salazar has a firm foundation to ensure that OFD continues to work diligently in protecting our community.
