The City Council convened on September 9, 2024, to discuss various updates and recognize significant community contributions.

The meeting began with an update on the 4Roots Farm Campus. In 2021, the City entered into a long-term lease with 4Roots Farms for an 18-acre property in the Packing District. The campus aims to address food insecurity by educating the community on sustainable food systems and offering hands-on learning experiences. Founder and CEO John Rivers provided an update on the farm's progress over the past three years.

Commissioner Burns led the Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance.

In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, Luis Martinez, Manager of the Office of Multicultural Affairs, gave an overview of upcoming events organized by the Hispanic Heritage Month Planning Committee. Commissioner Ortiz was acknowledged for his leadership and contributions.

Olympian Omari Jones was honored for his achievements at the recent Olympic Games in Paris. A Valencia College student and Edgewater High School graduate, Jones received a special "glove to the city" in addition to a proclamation from Orlando.

Public safety departments announced September 11 remembrance ceremonies. The Orlando Police Department will hold its ceremony at 10 a.m., followed by a candlelight ceremony hosted by Orlando Firefighters at Fire Station One at 6 p.m.

The Veterans Advisory Council invited the community to attend a POW-MIA Recognition Ceremony on Friday, September 13 at City Hall Rotunda. This annual event honors military prisoners of war and their families.
