The City of Orlando has announced its intention to request the release of funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for a new housing project aimed at providing affordable rental units for elderly residents. The request will be submitted on or after February 11, 2025, under Title II of the Cranston Gonzales National Affordable Housing Act and Title I of the Housing and Community Development Act.
The project, known as Mariposa Grove Apartments, is set to construct 138 affordable rental units within a 12-story building featuring energy-efficient design and commercial space on the ground floor. Located in downtown Orlando, the development will cater to low- and very low-income senior families.
Environmental assessments have concluded that with necessary mitigation measures in place, the project poses no significant impact on human environments. Consequently, an Environmental Impact Statement under NEPA is not required. The public can access detailed information about these assessments through various channels provided by the city's Housing and Community Development Department.
Public comments are invited until February 10, 2025. "Any individual, group, or agency may submit written comments on the ERR to the City of Orlando Housing and Community Development Department," according to city officials.
Mayor Buddy Dyer has certified compliance with environmental review responsibilities as part of HUD's requirements. Objections regarding fund release will be accepted by HUD for fifteen days following submission if based on specific criteria outlined in federal regulations.
For further inquiries or objections concerning this process, individuals are directed to contact Alesia Scott-Ford at HUD's Jacksonville office.
