Starting April 28, 2025, the City of Orlando, in collaboration with OUC—The Reliable One, will commence the next phase of the Summerlin Avenue Improvement Project. This phase involves essential upgrades to improve OUC's drinking water system and the City of Orlando's sanitary sewer and stormwater systems aimed at enhancing service reliability, safety, and residents' quality of life.

In this phase, westbound lanes on South Street will be reduced to one lane starting at South Mills Avenue, resuming three lanes west of the Summerlin Avenue and South Street intersection. The traffic adjustment will last approximately five months. Traffic on North and Southbound Summerlin Avenue will detour between East Anderson Street and Pine Street. This phase aligns with the completion of work at the Robinson Street and Summerlin Avenue intersection, set to reopen on April 18.

Moreover, work scheduled to last about 70 days will begin on Summerlin Avenue between Robinson Street and Ridgewood Street. Commuters are advised to anticipate delays along South Street and alternative routes are recommended.

There may be temporary disruptions, including a partial intersection closure between South Street and Summerlin Avenue for five months. Primarily, work will occur from Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with potential night and weekend work.

The project initiated earlier this year aims to modernize nearly 90-year-old infrastructure by installing 1.25 miles of new water pipes, adding fire hydrants, and upgrading valves to improve fire safety and system reliability. Alongside utility upgrades, the project will restore roadways, improve pedestrian safety, and enhance streetscapes, involving new pedestrian signals, crosswalks, curb ramps, sod replacement, and tree removal.
