The crew of Tower 15 - Lt. Ibrahim, Eng. Hammond, and Firefighters Crocker and Steinert - made an incredible save around 11pm last night near Northlake Pkwy and Narcoossee Rd. as a woman became trapped inside of a burning overturned vehicle. The flames were producing so much heavy smoke that the victim had difficulty breathing, therefore, in those quick deciding moments, Lt. Ibrahim removed his mask to provide the patient with air, all while still working to get her free. The entire crew continued to apply water to the fire and use extrication equipment to remove the patient. She had only seconds to live should it not have been for that air pack transfer. She was air lifted to Orlando Health with injuries, but is expected to survive.

Here is part of the synopsis:

Tower 15 crew advised District 5 Chief that they would be in rapid rescue mode. Tower 15 FF knocked the fire back with the water can while a second FF and Engineer stretched a hose line. The LT performed a quick 360, took the rear window out and made patient contact. A lot of smoke was pumping out of the vehicle and the patient was unable to breath. The LT took his SCBA airpack off and placed his mask onto the patient’s face with the bypass partially open to buy time for the extrication.

The fire kept reigniting and the fuel started to light off under the vehicle. The Engineer cut the unlocked trunk out of the way with the sawzall to give room to remove the victim from the rear window. The LT pried off the roof with a haligan to create more space, then both the LT and FF were able to pull the victim out through the rear window opening and drag her out of harms way. Patient care was initiated and turned over to Engine 16.
