Federal Emergency Relief Funding Awarded to the Florida Department of Transportation for Osceola, Orange, Seminole and Volusia Counties

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On July 28, 2023, U.S. Representative Maxwell Alejandro Frost (FL-10) announced a nearly $4 million federal grant to the Florida Department of Transportation for the major devastation Central Florida counties experienced at the hands of Hurricane Ian.

Specifically, the federal funds will be used for disaster response, debris removal and recovery of assets damaged and destroyed by Hurricane Ian, including for storm damage to SunRail.

September of last year marked one of the deadliest hurricanes central and southwest Florida has seen with Hurricane Ian ranking amongst one of the costliest hurricanes on record, claiming dozens of lives.

“I am thrilled to announce that several Central Florida counties, including Orange County, will receive nearly $4 million in emergency federal aid to improve public railway systems that were hard hit by Hurricane Ian,” said Rep. Frost. “This investment will help us prioritize the full restoration of our transportation systems and ensure the utmost safety for the Central Floridians who use these railways to commute to work and travel across our communities.”
