Mayor Buddy Dyer of Orlando has announced plans for the development of the Southeast Government Center, a project aimed at enhancing community services in the city. The proposed facility will serve as a focal point for citizens to access a range of services and information, as well as provide essential spaces for various activities.

According to Mayor Dyer, the Southeast Government Center will include a regional police substation to improve coordination among the 17 police districts in the Southeast region. Additionally, the facility will serve as a field operations center during emergencies such as hurricanes or other disasters.

The City of Orlando is seeking funding under the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2022, to support the construction of the Southeast Government Center. With an estimated project cost of $13,262,210, the City is requesting $1,000,000 in HUD grant funds for the development of the site and construction of the new building.

In a Notice of Finding of No Significant Impact, the City of Orlando has determined that the project will not have a significant impact on the human environment, thus exempting it from the requirement of an Environmental Impact Statement under the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969.

Members of the public are invited to submit written comments on the project's Environmental Review Record to the City of Orlando Public Works Department by April 12, 2024. Mayor Buddy Dyer has certified the City's compliance with environmental review processes, allowing the use of HUD program funds for the Southeast Government Center project.

For those wishing to raise objections to the release of funds, HUD will accept objections based on specific criteria outlined in the regulations. Objectors are advised to follow the required procedures and address their concerns to Holly A Kelly, CPD Director at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The City of Orlando is moving forward with its plans for the Southeast Government Center, aiming to enhance community services and public safety in the region.
